Since the batteries are good (not the 29 cent ones) the cost of a new smoke alarm would worth it. Get a good brand too!
I got a pair of Kidde brand smoke plus Carbon Monoxide detection devices and you should have to change batteries once a year (In October - Fire Prevention Month). I cheat and leave them in for 2 years [the Duracell brand].
Good Luck ! ! !

Buy Duracell or Rayovac and it will go for a year. Nothing worse than a chirping smoke alarm.
Good Luck

The life of a smoke detector is around 10 years. So if yours are getting to be around that age they are probably due to be replaced. But if they are a year or so old then take them back to where you bought them and they should be replaced free. Using up a battery that quick is not correct.
